Missing

We have been missing this week. Why? Because we have been working at the house till nearly midnight, or later, every night.

The bedroom windows upstairs and chipped paint on them, a no-no for the appraisal. We had seen the 'fixes' that the estate did on the house and knew that if we asked them to do it we would get a very shoddy job. So we decided to do the job ourselves and do it right.

I had no idea what 'doing it right' meant. First we taped all around the windows (a very time consuming job). We had to put paint stripper on the windows and let it dry and scrape it off.. twice. It was really difficult, especially around the lattice of the windows. We think we took of 6 layers of paint.

It still wasn't really good enough, so Morgan got his grinder and sanded everything down.

The wood underneath was beautiful. We were so upset that they had painted over them in the first place. Unfortunately we don't have the time or money to stain them so we decided to paint them again.

We put a coat of primer and two coats of paint on. We have had to clean the wood floors because the stripper/paint chips combination got all over the place even though we had tarps down. We washed the walls and then had to paint the walls where some of the paint had peeled off from our tape.

We had seen some paint in the house that matched the bedrooms. Or so we thought. It turns out it matches the paint in the boys bedroom. We started there, saw the match and quickly painted around all of the windows. It turns out that our bedroom and Shannons bedroom is painted a slightly lighter coat of tan/cream. The boys room look great, our look quite comical.

More cleaning of the floors, putting the windows back together. And cleaning the carpet on the landing outside of the bedroom is going on tonight. (Everything has to be down for a re-inspection tomorrow morning.)

So that has been our week. I've probably spent 40 hours there, poor Morgan has spent even more. He was there from 8in the morning until 12:30am yesterday, with a couple of breaks for meals.

We really appreciate Shannon who has spent so many evenings watching the boys and the many others who have babysat for us.

We still have a lot to do after we close on Friday and the house is officially ours, so I'll probably be calling for more help later! :)

Oh my goodness! What a job! But, the cool thing is, you will probably look out those windows a million times and feel a sense of pride for years to come. Or maybe loathing...I don't know. :) So excited for you guys though! Hope you'll be posting more pics soon!
