New Job Craziness

I am getting a new job. Hopefully. I have been hired as an independent contractor with a internet company called Boostability. I am very excited to start working for them and earning money for my family.

But it turns out that neither my home Mac or my laptop Mac are new enough to fit with the software that I need to download to do the work. Arg. I spent nearly 2 hours just trying to figure this stuff and and download the program. My eMac at home is 6 years old, I'm not sure about the laptop, because it was a hand-me-down.

In good news we think that Morgan's laptop will work. (His is a PC, and most applications work better with PC's than Macs - they just don't write for Mac.) We do need to get a new powercord for Morgan's laptop and then we can try it out and hopefully everything will work out and I can start my new job.

Everybody's NOT Fine

I had seen a preview for this movie and thought it looked very funny. Robert De Niro is so good at subtle humor that I was really looking forward to this. We got it as a Netflix DVD and through our busy life never got around watching it for over a month. Morgan thinks that we had a premonition that this film would not be good.

Let me clarify. The film itself was very enlightening, and well done. It was engaging and created a emotional response in me. All the parts that they showed in the preview (which were funny) were in the film and in fact, were funny. But the movie WAS NOT a comedy. It was a crazy serious drama that I was crying through practically the whole time. It made me sad and mad.

The plot involves a father whose wife has died 5 months previously and each of his four children call and cancel on an annual family reunion-type activity. He decides since the children can't see him, he will go across the country to see the kids.
There is a lot going on and I won't explain it in case you decide to see this film, but the part that upset me the most was that one of the sons got into trouble in Mexico and none of the other kids are going to tell their dad about it. How dare you not tell your father that his own son is in serious trouble. Arg. It made me so mad.

The movie did make me want to stay in closer contact with my own siblings and parents, though. So something good did come out of it.

Here is the video we took of Eli getting his new bike. He was VERY happy about it!

Eli's New Bike

Eli's 12 inch bike was getting much too small for him (as you have seen Josh riding it). We wanted to get him a new bike but didn't want to wait for his birthday so we decided to have him earn it. We made a Bike Chart with 200 marks, which we cut down to 120 marks since we found the bike we wanted used and wanted to pass some of the savings on to him.

To earn a bike mark he had to do some sort of job, cleaning his room, staying in bed at night, help Dad with a project, etc.

We've been working on this for a couple of months and by Friday night Eli only had 2 more marks left. We planned on going to Nauvoo and knew he wouldn't be able to get the marks by doing jobs at home. So when we got to our friends' home Eli asked Sister K if he could please do two jobs at her house and earn bike marks. We had to explain to her what was going on, but he dusted the piano and set the table for lunch and earned his last two marks.

Nesting

I have started the 'nesting' phase of pregnancy. Unfortunately I'm not really ready to do anything with Sacajawea's room, so instead I have been changing things up in the rest of the house.
Our incredibly comfortable pink floral couch just did not match our other two brown/orange couches. So I found a nice slipcover for it. I need to make new pillowcase covers for the pillows but I really have no idea what color to make them. I'll just look through the fabric I already have and see if something stands out to me.

The other change is that I rearranged my and Morgan's room. I wish I had a before shot, but I guess I never got around to it. Previously our bed was up against one of the blue walls, which was fine, but this way the room seems so much bigger, I can see my beautiful comforter (that my Mom made) when I walk in, and when I sit on my bed I get to enjoy my blue walls.

Go Josh!

Today Morgan took the boys outside to play for a while and had Josh ride Eli's bike. Here is a video we took. By the time they came inside Josh had ridden (continuously) from the corner, around our driveway and back to the corner again without crashing.

Bring on Spring!
