I Used My Brain

Morgan went to Eli's parent/teacher conference last night because I wasn't feeling well.  Eli was doing great on all of his requirements except for one - to show your work.  The problem was this sheet below.  Eli was supposed to show his work on which set of cards had more.

He got the right answer, 9+4 is greater than 6+5.  But to show his work he drew a picture of himself, pointing to his brain and wrote "I used my brain."  

I loved it.  Morgan loved it, and even Eli's teacher loved it.  But, that wasn't what they were looking for.  But what is a kid supposed to do when his brain easily knows the answer to the question?  How do you know something?  I used my brain of course!

Results

Well my surgery was yesterday to remove the growth from my nose.  Everything went well and I was in and out quickly.  I got to the hospital at 7:30am and was out just after 8:30am.

The doctor said that he was able to remove it well, and that it didn't bleed very much at all.


I just got a call from the nurses saying that the biopsy was finished and the results were negative. It was a benign tumor or the blood vessels. I just need to put anti-biotic ointment in my nose along with nasal saline spray and keep my follow-up appointment and I should be good.

Gross You Out

I am having a small surgery done tomorrow.  I have had a growth in my nose since July and after many doctors appointments, and waiting for doctor appointments I am finally getting it removed.

I am including a picture, but keeping it small, because really, who wants to look up somebody's nose?

It has been difficult dealing with this. I have had a hard time sleeping and breathing, although my body has adjusted and I feel used to it.

I go to the doctor's tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7:30am.  Morgan has court in another county so he will leave the house at 6:30am.  A friend of ours will come over and watch the kids while I am in surgery from 8:00-8:30am.
It is only going to be a local anesthesia to numb up my nose. My visiting teacher is going to bring dinner over for us tomorrow so I won't have to worry about cooking.

The doctor doesn't really know what it is, he says that it is not the normal shape of a pollyp, but he doesn't think it looks like a cyst or a cancer. They will biopsy it after it is removed.

And that is what is new with us this week.

CHICAGO

My brother and his wife, Matthew and Alisha went to Chicago last week for a work conference.  It has been nearly two years since we have seen them so Morgan and I decided to get our kids out of school and drive to Chicago to hang out with them.

We left early Thursday morning and drove the 5 hours to Chicago. We picked Matthew and Alisha up from their hotel and then drove to ours to park. Our room was ready early so we took our stuff up to the room first.

Then we walked to the Shedd Aquarium.  Morgan and I had won 4 general admission tickets at a fundraiser in the spring. For some reason they let all three of our kids get in for free.  (HORRAY!)


When we first got to the aquarium I discovered that our camera was talking keeping the pictures in the memory. (This is the old camera since the first got broken on the bobsled ride.)

Luckily I had my iPod with us, so all of these pictures are from that camera.

Noelle loved walking around and seeing the fish. 

This turtle is named Nickle.  She was injured as a baby and swims with her back legs up,
so she is unable to live in the wild. 

We got to see a diver feeding the fish in the Caribbean Reef. 

Eli and Josh got  tired and wanted to be in the stroller.

We spent a lot of time at the Cloud Gate sculpture, or as we called it The Giant Jelly Bean.

Morgan asked me to take a picture of him doing this fancy trick.  After we started it nearly all the other groups there started taking pictures in the same pose. Go Morgan!

You can't go to Chicago without trying real Chicago-style pizza!  It was huge and delicious. I understood the phrase Pizza Pie seeing this!

We also went to Navy Pier where Morgan had an interview.

Noelle was so good the entire day!  She got 1 tiny nap on the drive to Chicago and the rest of the day she was a peach.

Nauvoo

September 22nd was our stake temple day. We met at a part at 11am for a picnic lunch then Morgan and I went to the 1pm session.  Our friends the Evans watched our kid for us while we were in the Nauvoo Temple.

Once we came out of the temple they ran in and we watched all 7 kids. A couple of people we saw at the Family Living Center thought that all 7 were ours. The ages were right that there would only be 1 set of twins if it were true. We gladly told them they were mistaken and we were babysitting 4 of them.

Josh's 4th Birthday

We had a great time at Joshua's 4th birthday party.  We invited several friends of his and had a Ninja theme.


These first 3 pictures are from our family birthday night (on his birthday.)  For dinner that day he chose chips, pizza and soda.  I think we had root beer floats as a dessert that night and saved the ice cream cake for his party.

Ninjas have to be able to get an apple out of a tub of water by using only their mouths.

Morgan was a great Ninja. He got the apple out without biting the stem like the other kids did. 

This is Josh's homemade ice cream cake.  It involved mint oreos as the crust followed by mint ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream topped with more crushed mint oreos.  It was DELICIOUS!

We also had Ninja Sushi as a treat for the kids. It was Little Debbie treats cut to look like sushi rolls. Eat kid also got chopsticks to eat their food with. It was nice to just put all the food out for the kids and let them pick what they wanted and how much they wanted.

This is my awesome Ninja pinata. I made it myself if you couldn't tell!  :)  It worked really well.
